I meant to say "The Vonshef advertised on that Amazon link..."

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
The Vonshef comes in a choice of (very sky-looking) blue, (very claret-looking) red, or (very black-looking) black.

It's tempting to buy a couple.

Pods are stupidly expensive and, for the hippies out there, really bad for the environment as they are s combination of foil and plastic that can't be easily recycled

I've got a delonghi vintage icona machine - works great, really easy and you can use see pods if you want to (easy serve espresso)

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
When the rubber ring goes on those stovetop things, isn't difficult to get a replacement?

Unless you live in Italy, when they're 50 eurocents down the local market.

I used to end up buying another machine when I used them.

Now I use a French press, which is better for non-espresso blends, although not for the proper stuff.

I use one of those cheap Italian stovetop things. Absolutely fine.

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
Convenience seems the only advantage to the pod machines.

What kind of idiot would buy one, and then end up fiddling around filling the pods with their own coffee?

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
I can see the attraction of pod coffee machines but for me you can't beat a proper filter machine (or espresso if that's what you're after), grinder and beans.

If like me having a delicious coffee is a pleasant daily ritual, the extra effort only enhances the experience. But I would definitely tire of it if I was drinking more than one a day.

Recently got a nice KitchenAid filter machine. I like it milky but strong, with a squirty cream 'head'.

Temperature is definitely an issue. As someone has said for smoothness it's best brewed slightly cooler than boiling. Easily resolved by heating the cup with boiling water then microwaving the milk. All part of the ritual.

Is Texas finally morphing into Alan Partridge. Dunno why, but this cracked me up....

"Rep admitted many complaints...said it was a design feature...coffee tastes better if not too hot...Bullshit...

Suggested heating cup in microwave before making coffee... haha

I use the pod twice...once at full strength...then use again for weaker coffee...only good for the stronger strength pods...

I found a way to con the machine by re-using empty pods with your own ground coffee...but it's messy...inconvenient etc..."

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
I have a bean to cup machine, it grinds the beans & makes espressos, cappuccinos etc. with minimal fuss.

They are more expensive than the pod machines but taste so much better, will be cheaper in the long run as beans are cheap as fuck & you dont have all that nasty packaging ending up in a dolphin's eye.

I don't understand the advert for the coffee machine with Jack Black and George Clooney. Doesn't matter how many times I see it, I just don't follow it.

Other than that, I have no other contribution to make to this thread

She's been a housewife for 45 years Razzle and literally just sits there and has a cup of coffee every hour.

She drinks nothing else other than the odd water or orange juice when out.

Probably never been drunk and before quitting a couple of years ago, she also smoked 30 ciggies a day.

She's not big on health and doesn't give a flying fuck about it, which is where I get it from.

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
got a Krups Nespresso machine. No milk compartment but has a steam nozzle to froth up your milk before you pour it on. Next to no cleaning needed as a result.

She's a pensioner and is rich, but I'm sure not everyone thinks spending £120 a month on coffee on top of all other expenses is money well spent.

Re: Let's Talk Coffee Machines
Just had a Nespresso Cappuccino from one of these after getting out of bed :

https://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/product/citiz-coffee-machine-magimix-m190-milk-limousine-black

I switched it on, bunged the milk in the frother thing and waited about 30 seconds. The milk frother is great and washes really easily and the coffee is decent - plenty of choice of coffee.

At the moment they are giving a 60 quid credit in nespresso pods if you buy one - thats a lot of pods. I can remember looking at all the options as well before buying one, but Nespresso for me at least was the best. Also coffee delivery from them is good - next day service and free delivery if you order a decent quantity.

These usually pop up from time to time in John Lewis at 150 quid, infact I just checked and it is 150 at John Lewis with the 60 quid credit - no brainer
